2012 Event Champions


College basketball season is our time of year – particularly early in the season. And, it’s not that we get to travel to Anaheim or Orlando or Puerto or Hawaii (OK, maybe a little), but we also get to see—up-close!—some exciting college basketball action. Congratulations to all the teams that participated in ERT’s multi-team events, and a special nod to the winners of the Old Spice Classic (Gonzaga), the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic (Arizona), Puerto Rico Tip-Off (Oklahoma State), the DIRECTV Classic (Cal), and the Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant (Colorado). SEARS Armed Forces Classic

Armed Forces ClassicThe inaugural SEARS Armed Forces Classic debuted on Nov. 9 in Germany at Ramstein Air Base with Connecticut topping Michigan State in Kevin Ollie’s coaching debut. State Farm Champions Classic

Champions ClassicKeith Appling hit a pair of huge shots down the stretch -- one from beyond the 3-point arc, the other on an acrobatic drive -- for Michigan State, as the No. 21 Spartans upset No. 7 Kansas in Game 1 of the Champions Classic in Atlanta. In Game 2, Seth Curry scored 23 points and No. 9 Duke held off a furious comeback by the third-ranked Kentucky Wildcats. MORE | 2013

 


 

Charleston Classic

Charleston ClassicAskia Booker had a career-high 23 points and Andre Roberson had 16 points and nine rebounds as Colorado captured the 2012 Charleston Classic title with an 81-74 victory over Murray State. (Baylor beat St. John’s to claim third place.) MORE | 2013 Field

 


 

 Puerto Rico Tip-Off

Old Spice Classic

Old Spice ClassicLed by Elias Harris (24 points) and Kevin Pangos (23), No. 17 Gonzaga beat Davidson 81-67 to capture the 2012 Old Spice Classic, becoming the first team in the tournament to claim multiple titles in this event. The Wooden Legacy

Wooden LegacyThe Wooden Legacy, an all-new multi-team collegiate basketball tournament, will begin play during the 2013 Thanksgiving holiday in Orange County.  The tournament was formed as two vibrant, nationally-recognized in-season collegiate basketball events join forces.  The former John R. Wooden Classic will combine with the Anaheim Classic, the eight-team, three-day, 12-game bracketed event that has been staged the past six years in Anaheim. MORE


 

Anaheim Classic

Anaheim ClassicAllen Crabbe scored 24 points, Justin Cobbs added 20, and California pulled away in the final six minutes to beat Pacific 78-58 to win the 2012 DIRECTV Classic.  The Golden Bears are off to their first 6-0 start 2007. (Georgia Tech outlasted Saint Mary’s to claim third place.)

Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic

Diamond Head ClassicRodney McGruder scored a career-best 28 points and Kansas State used a big first-half run to beat Long Beach State 77-60 in the 2011 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. Tournament host Hawaii beat Clemson 75-68 on in the fifth-place game.

Jimmy V Men's Basketball Classic presented by Corona Extra

Jimmy V ClassicShowcasing four of the nation's elite collegiate teams on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The doubleheader event features UConn vs. NC State at 7 PM, followed by Texas vs. Georgetown at 9 PM.
