Thanksgiving Day in Orlando—Exciting Start to the 2011 Old Spice Classic

Posted by: and Filed Under: Game Recaps, General

So while many of you were enjoying a nice Turkey dinner with family and friends on Thursday, the Old Spice Classic event team was giving thanks in a different way, with lots and lots of college basketball.  There was a lot of incredible energy on Thanksgiving Day in the HP Field House at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.  The teams played their hearts out during this first day of the tourney, all with the goal of being in the semi-finals and ultimately playing for the championship.  Fans had an extensive basketball feast–clutch shooting, high-wire dunks and tenacious defense.

GAME 1-The day tipped-off with Texas Tech and Indiana State. The Sycamores lead throughout and won by a final of 60-49. The 5-0 squad proved they will be a tough-out, no matter who they would face in this tournament.

GAME 2-The second game was a thriller between Minnesota and DePaul.  The Blue Demons looked impressive in the first half, stifling the Golden Gophers with a full-court pressing defense.  After leading by 10 at half, DePaul was exploited down low after the break.  Minnesota’s significant advantage in rebounding and points-in-the-paint sparked the comeback.  A whopping 30 second-chance points went a long way towards their 86-85 win.

GAME 3-Even after a wild Game 2, the game of the day turned out to be Dayton vs. Wake Forest (Game 3), who went toe-to-toe for 40 minutes.  After 12 ties and 14 lead changes, it was the Flyers who ended up on top in an 80-76 shootout.  The shooters for each team matched each other from outside, as both squads ended up with nine three-pointers.  All five starters scored in double-digits for Dayton’s balanced attack.

Intense action all the way through Game 3

GAME 4-Fairfield and Arizona State squared off in a satisfying night-cap.  Unlike the two frenetic shootouts from earlier, this game was a half-court, grind-it-out slugfest.  Points were at premium throughout the ballgame, and the Stags’ defense really put the ASU offense in a vice.

10 Reasons Why The Old Spice Classic Rocks!

Posted by: and Filed Under: Uncategorized

TOP TEN REASONS TO WATCH THE OLD SPICE CLASSIC

 1. I warped into the futuretime and, after photocopying the stock market and getting French kiss tips from my futurebody, I saw the Old Spice Classic and it was good.

 2. You will definitely see an NBA player. Or 50.

3. Since there are currently no manned space-flight adventure missions to dangerous moons, the Old Spice Classic will be the best thing on TV.

 4. It’s like eyeball suicide drills before March Madness.

 5. If an important president comes to your house and asks what you thought of the Old Spice Classic, you will feel very cultured when you can  talk about dunks with him.

6. Use the fact that it’s at Disney World to drag your significant other along, since he/she loves fanciful rides.

7. Any sport match sponsored by Old Spice is guaranteed to contain 100 of the 100 greatest sports plays of all time, so if you’re in the audience your head and arms will be on the SportsCenter’s Top 100 Plays of All Time recap.

8. You will be excited.

9. The odds of getting in a brass-knuckle fight with a rocky mountain wildcat while watching basketball are very, very slim. You should watch the game anyways, I guess, but that does suck big-time.

10. The world’s first-ever tweet-powered cheering section will be there, so that will be neat to see.

BONUS REASON: When the TV guys show your grill on TV cheering wildly, your mom finally know where you are for Thanksgiving!
